Pupil absence

Pupil absence

Day to day pupil absences

Please report the absence to the office as soon as possible using the Weduc Absence Reporting form, or tell us the child’s name, class and brief explanation for their absence by telephone 01530 222304 (leave a message on the answerphone) or in person at the office. If there is an unexplained absence we will telephone you to ask where your child is and the reason for their absence. This is for safeguarding reasons.

Term-time holiday

The school and its staff regard the regular attendance of children at school as being vital to each child’s education and development. It is for this reason that non attendances (however short or infrequent) are taken seriously. It remains the policy of the school only to sanction non-attendance during term time in exceptional circumstances.

If your child has unauthorised leave of absence you may either be issued with a Penalty Notice of £120 per parent per child (discounted to £60 if paid within 21 days), or, your case could be referred by the Local Authority directly to the Magistrates Court for the purposes of a criminal prosecution.

Application for leave of exceptional circumstances should be put in writing to the headteacher and the application will be considered and a reply by letter will be given. We feel strongly that good attendance (i.e. above 96%+) is vital for the education of all our pupils and do not condone any term time absences.

Our updated Attendance Policy reflects these amendments.  A copy of our attendance policy is available in the policy section of this website.
