Courageous Advocacy Day
Proverbs 31:8-9
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
At Belton we want to encourage children to use their voices to enact change in the local, national and global community.
Belton CE Primary School's Christian vision and values inspires the whole school community to engage in social action and to be courageous advocates for change.
To have a secure understanding of what courageous advocacy was, we think it is important for all the children to look at courageous advocates across the globe, both past and present, that have faced injustice and overcome barriers in order to help others for the greater good.
Annually, we have a dedicated 'Courageous Advocates Day' where the children use the 'Little People Big Dreams' book series to reflect on what injustice some of these courageous advocates have faced and how they changed the world for the better.
Please see who each class focus on:
Hedgehogs - Queen Elizabeth
Foxes - Jane Goodall / Marcus Rashford
Squirrels - Greta Thunberg / Emmeline Pankhurst
Badgers - Malala Yousafzai / Alan Turing
Social Action Projects are something you could do in order to address an issue or concern in their community for example volunteering, litter picking, writing letters or educating people.
