The following information will give you an insight into the areas of study we will be covering this term. It is intended to help with the planning of topics covered, reading material and homework.
Assessment is continuous and takes place in all subjects studied under the National Curriculum. Please try to avoid holidays during April and May as most of the tests and tasks for Standard Attainment Testing (SATs) take place during these months.
The children usually find these demanding and tiring so please ensure they have early nights during this period. | |||

Literacy |
We will be reading stories with familiar settings and stories and rhymes with predictable patterns. Non-fiction will consist of signs, labels, instructions, captions and lists. Books to share will be sent home and may be changed up to 3 times a week.

Numeracy |
Work will cover addition, subtraction, place value, counting reliably and re-calling number pairs.

Science |
We will be exploring materials using our senses. We will be finding out about the uses of a variety of materials.

We will be looking at the Earth, Sun and Moon and changing state.

Geography |
We will be talking about where your child lives and local homes and buildings.
|

The theme will be village settlers and how and why people chose to live in specific places. |
|
History |
We will be considering homes in the past and comparing them with those of today.
|
|
(1st half term) People in Victorian times will be the main focus for the first half term. |

Art |
We will be drawing, painting, using colour and clay. We will print and do collage.

We will be looking at creating images and the story for a dream. | |
|
R.E. |
We will be thinking about belonging, families and special places
|
|
We will be studying Christian festivals, exploring the meaning of faith and religions around us.

|
Music |
We will be singing and playing instruments.
|

Our main focus this term will be listening and approving, composing and performing. This will involve singing lessons leading to the Christmas production.

P.E. |
Dance, movement and swimming. |
|
Our work in P.E will involve three main areas this term, namely invasion games, gymnastics and swimming.
P.E. kit on Mondays and Wednesdays please.

Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Development (PSHE) and Citizenship |
We will be talking about rules and setting goals. We will talk about families and friends. We will also be considering living in a diverse world.

Children will be asked to play an active role in our school including the formulation of class and school rules; resolving problems; the use of fund raising money and understanding environmental issues. Included in this will also be sex and relationship education.

|
ICT |
We will develop keyboard skills and look at ICT in the home.
|
|
This term we will be evaluating information and checking for accuracy.
|
|
Design and Technology |
We will be making a house/shelter using junk materials and construction kits. | Moving toys and board games will be the main focus of our work this term. | |

Language |

Homework |
|
|
This will be given on a daily basis. One week is given for completion. Some homework may be topic based and set over several weeks. Spellings and tables will be given on Wednesday and tested the following Wednesday. As a guide the homework set will be:-
Monday Numeracy Tuesday History/Geography Wednesday Spellings/Tables Thursday Science Friday A project about our solar system.
We also encourage reading on a regular basis. We expect homework to last about half an hour per day but if it is taking much longer or your child is having problems please let me know.
Class Targets
Each child has targets that they aim to achieve in literacy and numeracy. However we also have class targets. These are:- Literacy
· Achieve at least 9 out of ten in weekly spellings. · Write well organised and interesting stories with correct punctuation, grammar and a variety of sentence structures.
Numeracy · To know and use all of the times tables up to 10 X. · To solve number problems with more than one function. · To have a good knowledge of mathematical vocabulary. |
